When is the retreat?

Friday, October 25 through Sunday, October 27

We are hosting a pre-departure lunch at 11am and will be departing by noon on 10/25

We will be returning to campus by 2pm on 10/27

What is the purpose of this retreat?

You will make new friends, build community, experience personal growth, explore leadership opportunities and get energized for winter and spring campus activities. We will explore what brings us together within the LGBTQA community, as well as how our different experiences and identities create spaces for ally-building and activism.  No leadership experience required – all students are welcome regardless of student organization affiliation or prior experience.

Where will we leave from and at what time will we leave?

We will be leaving campus by noon on 10/25, immediately following our lunch. So REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR LUGGAGE TO THE LUNCH!

Where are we going?

We are going to a YMCA Camp in Huguenot, NY.

What should we pack?

We will send all participants a list of items they should bring. In a nutshell, we will be staying in a nice lodge and they provide plenty of bedding.

What will we do at this retreat?

The LGBTQ Retreat planning committee will be facilitating various workshops. They will range from exploring various identities to brainstorming ways of making positive changes on campus.

All meals will be provided and there will be lots of snacks to nosh on!

There will also be time allotted for simply hanging out and getting to know each other.

I’m not exactly “out” to people yet. Will this be an anonymous retreat?

We respect that everyone comes out at their own pace. It is an expectation of all retreat participants to keep people and discussions confidential, which we discuss at the beginning of the retreat. Ground Rules and Expectations are always agreed upon prior to retreat activities.

Who else will be there?

The retreat participants will be made up of students from the four undergraduate schools, as well as graduate assistants and full-time administrators.

Will I have time to do homework?

While there will be scheduled breaks throughout the retreat, we encourage students to use that time to hang out with each other and make new connections.

We strongly advise that you complete assignments prior to the retreat. However, there will be time on the bus ride to read and study.

Why is there a $15 non-refundable deposit? What happens to that money?

The retreat committee would like to ensure that students who apply and are accepted to the retreat make the commitment to attend. When students drop, it takes opportunities away from other students who wanted to join us. Students who attend the retreat will receive their deposit back after the retreat. Students who drop will not receive their money back.

I noticed the retreat is taking place the weekend before Halloween. I love that holiday! Will we get to celebrate at all on the retreat?

You bet! Several committee members are Halloween enthusiasts, who will ensure that some autumn/Halloween-themed activities will be planned. Ideas are encouraged!
